As far as your splendid mod is concerned, this would be quite helpful if there was a possibility to have two walking speeds*. If one can change the speed of flight in flying mode, why not to implement a similar feature for ordinary movement.

Indeed, and my mod actually already does increase the player's horizontal walk speed as they fall faster, if that's what voxelproof meant.

My knowledge about MT possibilities has just got updated. I'm afraid that now some simple aerodynamic features can be expected in mods like this one, Piezo_ ;)

But more seriously - unwielding hangglider after hitting an obstacle would facilitate greater immersion while flying due to more attention and carefulness needed to avoid dangerous crashes.

I want the motorized gliders to start climbing when pressing the E key, so they can be used for transportation. However, they should only climb very slowly, so they are not a huge advantage.
