[Poll] Which editor do you use for Lua code?

[Poll] Which editor do you use for Lua code?

Postby Eightball » Fri Mar 29, 2019 3:50 pm

Hi there,

I'm very interested in the editor you use for creating Mods or Games or any other Lua files. Searching around the forum I saw several ones but I would like to know if there are some favourites or evenly distributed. I picked some from lua-users.org and lets see how you work.

Please give me some hints if I forgot one very important editor, but there are too many to list all of them (see link above). And only 10 options are allowed in the poll.

Let the poll begin :-)

*Edit: combined Eclipse and LDT because LDT is based on eclipse and added Visual Studio Code

Vim for Windows, because I use Vim everywhere.

BTW, you forgot about the editor made by a certain hardcore FOSS advocate which is a bit ironic ;-)

Pluma, the default text editor of the MATE desktop environment. Forked from Gedit back when GNOME 2 was still around and before the Gedit rewrite that made it practically useless as anything more than a note-taking application.

It has syntax highlighting and semi-automatic indentation. I actually use this for most of my code, except larger projects (especially Android) where keeping track of everything gets difficult and I can benefit from IDE features like refactoring, find definition/usages, and so on.

The one thing I miss though is code folding. There was a plugin that provided (somewhat hackish, but nevertheless I used it all the time) code folding in Pluma but the plugin stopped working when MATE switched to GTK 3 and I couldn't figure out how to update it to work again.

Does VS Code have a decent Lua plugin? Last one I played was fairly terrible.

You forgot the great Jed editor, Emacs, and GNU Nano too.

I use Jed for little and not so serious edit, Vim for the rest.

Mousepad, XFCE's text editor, is surprisingly nice.

Yes, but M$ WordPad is definitely not one of them, even WordPerfect Write is better
