It's time to say goodby

Postby bell07 » Fri Apr 05, 2019 9:44 pm

I post this to the "WIP Mods" because this was the most visited section for me in the forum. so I think the right people read this..

I had a lot of fun playing and hacking the minetest, and learned a new language "lua". Thank you to all who supported me and was patient with my sometimes ill-conceived Ideas and improvements. But all good things have an end sometime.

I do not play the game because of
Image
Since I realized I can change all in modding I do not see the ingame world, but nodes, abm's entities, timers, ..

Now my both childs gets lost the interest on the game too so I lost my "tester" and the last reason to stay with minetest.

I do not like to trow away or leave unmaintained all my coding so I ask in minetest-mods what of them could be transferred.
Of course other people can take over some mods if not accepted by organization.

My leave is not a hard break, I still read the notification mails, answer them and maybe write some lua lines, but no own initiative.

Sorry to hear it. I completely understand what you are talking about. It's hard to "unsee" the man behind the curtain. Something similar happened to me with Dwarf Fortress -- things stopped looking like objects and started looking like database entries and registers and variables, and that's without being able to see the code. My kids are rapidly developing new interests, so I hear you there, too. I'd have dropped out while still a lurker had the school not asked me to take on an after-school program to help kids learn to code.

Have fun!

Thanks for considering minetest-mods. You've made some creative and unique contributions, and players will be using it for hopefully a long time!

Thanks for your contributions to SmartFS. When it dropped off my priorities, it was good to have someone contribute the needed changes. Sorry for taking so long to merge :)

I am very sorry to see you go, I was rather hoping that you could help me sort out the mess that is multi-skins, clothing and armor, etc. I feel like you were on the right path with many of your ideas on that and I may well still draw upon some of your work.

Anyway, best of luck and fun with your future endeavours :3

bell07,

I know how you feel, regarding seeing only patterns and numbers and columns and rows and pieces of meaningless data and...... You may find that this perspective will follow you into the real world. It is not unthinkable.

The more I've learned, statistically, mathematically, socially, psychologically, anthropologically, geographically, geologically, scientifically, technologically, politically, and just hysterically, ....(breathes)...., the more cynical I've become, or the more pragmatic, but not so much the "throw my hands up in the air". The more I mod, the less I play, and the more I want to tinker. I have to remind myself why I mod in the first place, or why I write code in general.

Therefore, rather than say goodbye to MT, simply stop modding for a while, maybe even just take a break from MT for a while, if need be, but for the luv of whatever MT god there (is / isn't), har har har, please do not say good bye.

From a fellow modder and parent, I do wish you and yours all the best in all your future endeavors.

Thank you so very much for your contributions!!!
