[16px] Less Dirt

[16px] Less Dirt

Extends the grass growth on the side of blocks so that rolling hills show less exposed bare dirt. Also does the same for snow, forest litter, moss, etc.

This improves screenshots in a similar fashion to Landscape redo but doesn't alter nodes.

Removes a piece of Minecraft's style legacy that Notch might not have gotten right in 2009. Currently it has Minetest-Game, MineClone 2, and Ethereal textures in it, but others could be added.

+1 I really like the effect this gives.

I also quickly compared it to NoDirt*, and definitely prefer the little bit of dirt your textures leave showing.

Now we just have to get Minetest to support stylistic variations. ;-)

* It's easy to get NoDirt by creating an override.txt file with lines like the following:
Code: Select all
default:dirt_with_grass top default_grass.png
default:dirt_with_grass sides default_grass.png
default:dirt_with_grass bottom default_dirt.png

It would be cool to be able to make this an option in settings
If a TP had a few variations of grass coverage the setting could something like 2/16px, 8/16px, 12/16px, 16/16px
But limit this setting to only ground coverings, otherwise people will find a million ways to add more settings per nodes which would create a mess, taking longer to make all the settings than to actually play.

Currently, the way the engine reads TPs is about as basic as it gets though
It would be nice to be able to add a selection for "random textures" off/on as well and code the engine to read subfolders within a TP folder
I would call this RTM (random texture mode) for instances where say cobble could have different versions to break up patterns with textures

Reading textures from subfolders is a 5.0.0 feature though.

Ethereal and MineClone 2 support added

Yeah, I reckon a transition is necessary for when grass blocks are on top of dirt blocks, but that little bit of dirt seems to also work pretty well on gently sloping grass.
