Windows 10 Minetest Malfunction

Windows 10 Minetest Malfunction

Postby Cupcake_Kitty » Fri Apr 12, 2019 4:31 am

I got a new Windows 10 computer last year and right away installed the 0.4.17 version. But when I got on, the gameplay laggy and a tiny bit slow at times, the nodes were also weird. I saw the new 0.5.1 update and got it, but it's no better. See the screenshot attachment below, which demonstrates my problem with the nodes. It also keeps saying "Irrlicht: Could Not Bind Texture" after the usual "ERROR[Main]:" thing. My computer is a refurbished Dell. Maybe the graphics card is too low-grade? Other games work fine. Perhaps I need an older version of MT?

If anyone can help, please do. I'm stuck playing a not-nearly-as-fun game, which is the only one like MT that will work smoothly.

The screenshot shows that your device supports OpenGL 1.1, which is really old. It is likely the cause of the visual problems and I think minetest requires at least OpenGL 2.0. You can try however switching rendering engine settings, but I don't know if that will help.

Going back to an older Minetest means that you won't be able to play online in the future, since more and more servers will switch to version 5.x.x over time. However, if you play by yourself, that may be a reasonable choice in your case.

On Windows, OpenGL 1.1 is the feature level supported by the basic driver Microsoft provides.
Of course this is nowhere near sufficient for anything, so this means you need to install the right GPU drivers for you hardware (Windows might be able to do this automatically).

How do I switch the settings and how can I get to older versions to download them?

"(Windows might be able to do this automatically)" Does this mean I can download it from somewhere? Sorry, I'm not super techy.

Thanks.
